#5 Life of Pi (Yann Martel)

“I suppose in the end, the whole of life becomes an act of letting go, but what always hurts the most is not taking a moment to say goodbye.”

“A story that will make you believe in God,” as one character describes it, but asked for me it is a book that can renew your faith in God. It is a story where in you will encounter the most outrageous scenario of sea adventure and survival at its best form of retelling. In the end, you will end up thinking, if the story itself is true or just a product of the author’s well crafted mind.

#4 Walden (Henry David Thoreau)

“Direct your eye right inward and you’ll find a thousand regions in your mind yet undiscovered. Travel them, & be expert in home cosmography”

This is a great book on how to live a full life of simplicity and contentment. Life in the Walden is very plain. It is not socially or culturally sophisticated. It is living your life in BASIC. WALDEN teaches me that you can enjoy life in its simplest form. It is a book full of wisdom and thoughts about life. It is a great read for everyone who seeks peace and helpful meditations from life’s complexities.

# 3 1984 (George Orwell)

“War is peace.
Freedom is slavery.
Ignorance is strength.”

1984 is a well-written novel! It predicts a frightening future with shocking accuracy. It is about the power of the government on how can it manipulate the past and control the present. I am amazed with Orwell’s brilliancy in writing this book. His mind is so advanced, thinking these thoughts back in his time (the novel was first published in 1949). It is a book of well worth of read if you want to sharpen more your mind and gives definition and meaning to virtues of life.

#2 Kite Runner ( Khaled Hosseini)

“Quiet is peace. Tranquility. Quiet is turning down the VOLUME knob on life. Silence is pushing the OFF button. Shutting it down. All of it.”

“For you, a thousand times over.”

I will never get tired to read this book all over again. It is a great story of friendship enclosed in a reality of war, discrimination and betrayal. I like how the author writes the story because it is heartfelt and full of compassion. I am not a tearjerker but you will find yourself crying as you read this. It leaves a mark of redemption and genuine friendship.

#1 The Shack ( W.Paul Young)

“I don’t need to punish people for sin. Sin is its own punishment, devouring you from the inside. It’s not my purpose to punish it; it’s my joy to cure it.” (Jesus speaking)

This book tops the most on my reading for the year 2012 because it enlightens me on my understanding about the Trinity. It covers a wide variety of theological topics each of which is relevant to the theme of the main character’s suffering and his inability to trust in God because of what had happened to his daughter. The book portrays the loving relationships within the Trinity and so on. I may not fully grasp the contents of the book, but I am still grateful because it provides helpful correctives to my many false understandings of God.
