May 24,2015: A Day Of A Beautiful Disaster

According to U.S. Geological Survey Fact Sheet 113-97, Mount Pinatubo was the second largest terrestrial eruption of the 20th century after the 1912 eruption of Novarupta in the Alaska Peninsula, and by far the largest eruption to affect a densely populated area, which occurred in the Philippines on June 15, 1991.

It was nostalgic being here, although I wasn’t able to witnessed this tragic event, just hearing the stories of our guide of what happened that very day made me shiver. I am glad that I have seen it’s beauty after the eruption, it was so serene ย but the consequences of this catastrophe were felt far and wide and those buried by lahars will be out of use for years to come.
